Windows XP Icon Sizes

There are four Icon sizes for Windows XP that display in different areas on your computer like your Desktop, Toolbar, & Start Menu. These sizes are 48 × 48, 32 × 32, 24 × 24, and 16 × 16 pixels. In MicroAngelo Toolset you can quickly specify these attributes for just about any icon.

Microsoft recommends icons contain these three icon size attributes:

48 × 48 pixels
32 × 32 pixels
16 × 16 pixels

You may find that it's a good idea to also create a 24 x 24 if designing icons you expect might end up in the Windows Start menu items or toolbar. Microsoft says you don't need to create 24 x 24 so use your own judgment here.
